The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Response
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
His leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting Ben soon. We are all excited to persist observing the progress of the game in the time to follow.
The President
Experience of the New Head
The appointee currently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. Then, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary explains. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or go big, put it on the line, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
The game lacks an announced release date or supported systems, but players can anticipate further news as development advances.
